  1. There’s no way I’d buy Twitter followers. By far the best way to win them is on the strength of what you share and how often you engage with others. If you tweet interesting and relevant stuff then you’ll get followers who are genuinely interested in your take on things. Sure, it’s nice to get lots of them. But quality is much more important.

      Hey Matt,

I think so many people try to get a ton of followers even if they are not related, which really doesn’t do any good. It’s essentially like having a lot of Monopoly money :)

  2. I don’t know why anyone would want to buy followers, or even have a huge number of followers unless you’ve acquired them the natural way. I’d rather look for real people I have something in common with, and follow them. They will usually follow me back.

I agree it makes no since and dirty marketers use this tactic as if it means something. So you have 200K followers do they ever interact wit h you? I would rather have 10 great followers than 10,000 bots following me any day!

  3. Hi Garen,

Thanks for sharing the warnings about buying Twitter followers. Personally I wouldn’t do it because Twitter is a social platform and in my opinion, it isn’t the correct way to use it for my needs.

I think I mentioned in my last comment that I am re-vamping my account. I’m deleting all non-followers, then I plan to manually connect with my friends so we can follow each other. When I started marketing, I didn’t understand the power of Twitter and I followed a lot of people assuming they would follow back. That is not the case. Twitter is no different than any other social platform. If used correctly it is a great way to engage and develop relationships. I want to be able to recognize every follower I have. That is one of my goals for 2013. I prefer organic and quality followers. Great information!

      Hey Raena,

Yeah it still dumbfounds me on why people do this. It’s not really about the numbers but the quality of followers. Sure let me know when you revamp your Twitter. Also, make sure you share good content your readers would like.

  4. Hi Garen, Interesting topic. I would never buy followers. However, you mentioned Tweetadder in that vein. I use TA, but not as a tool to gain followers, but more to automate my tweets. You do have to monitor it and weed out the ones who are not real. It is important to focus on relationships. There is no point in having thousand of followers if they don’t even see your tweets! lol
    Have a tweeter day,

      Hey Lynn,

It’s a topic I think so many people need to be aware of. Who cares if you have a bunch of bots following you. TA is bad to automate tweets. I use HS for this and like how it will automate to all profiles not just Twitter. It’s like Scrapebox, not a bad program, but people don’t use it right. Find good places to manual blog comment. Not blast tons of generic comments out.
